The vagal nerve creates a parasympathetic response with the heart. What immediate response occurs when this nerve is
cut as in surgery?
Answer:
The vagus nerve is also known as the 10th cranial nerve having both motor and sensory nerve fibers. The parasympathic response of vagus nerve to the heart is bradycardia i.e. it slows down the heart rate.
When vagus nerve is cut during surgery, it leads to tachycardia (i.e. increased heart rate).
