Natural selection

It is the survival and reproduction of individuals because of the differences in phenotype.

Example

Consider a particular population of beetles.

There is variation in their traits - some of the beetles are brown and some of them are green.

Differential reproduction - Environment cannot sport unlimited growth of population. So not all beetles will not reproduce to their full potential.

Here, green beetles get eaten by birds more. They survive to reproduce less than brown beetles.

Heridity - Those survived brown beetles will reproduce to form more brown baby beetles.

So, more advantageous trait allow brown beetles to have more offsprings.

If this process continues, all remaining beetles will be brown.

This process is due to natural selection.
