describe the physiological mechanism of volume control an pressure control?
what the strategies to improve oxygenation in a ventilator ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

ANS)

The pressure is not really regulated in any method and the pressure waveform use a parabolic sloping fashion as the lung swell at the time of breathing.Pressure waveform is really changeable at the time of volume control ventilation,altering the appearance/form on the basis of airway resistance and lung compliance.

Some important strategies to improve oxygenation in a ventilator are;

  • Enhancing the FIO2.
  • Enhancing the mean alveolar pressure,enhancing the mean airway pressure. Enhancing thePEEP. enhancing the I:E ratio
  • Re-open alveoli by using the PEEP

Within a P-V curve why is it non linear, what physiological mechanisms lead to less volume intake at low and high pressure, while higher volume intake at middle pressure range? This also means compliance is the slope of this curve, but what makes compliance value different at different pressure interval (so variation in volume intake at different pressure)? A decrease in plasma volume will decrease plasma hydrostsatic pressure. This can be detected by the cardiovascular baroreceptors which send a signal to the cardiovascular control center which sends nervous impulses to the arterioles to constrict. Constriction decreases flow to the capillary beds, in turn decreasing flow out of the capillaries at the capillary beds served by this arteriole. This prevents further decrease in plasma volume. Is this an osmotic mechanism? Is this a homeostatic mechanism?   Is it negative feedback?...
