The story Saboteur is written by Ha Jin and it basically follows the story of Mr.Chiu who has been arrested for a crime he did not commit. The time period which follows this story is during the Chinese cultural revolution, but the story is set up in a fictitious environment. It was when China was under the communist control and people did not have the right to speak for their own. The police had a strong control on the people and people were falsely accused of something if the officials did not like something. It reflects a communist time where the law enforcers are the one who have power and hence they tend to break the law most.
