5. Meniscus cartilage is the type of cartilage present in the knee and it is made up of a substance called fibrocartilage. There are two of these C-shaped pads in each knee, one on the medial (inside) part, and one on the lateral (outside) part.

There are different types of meniscus tears out of which some tears won't heal without treatment. If tear is on the outer one-third of the meniscus, it may heal on its own or it should be repaired surgically.

It could take about four to eight weeks. Usually, the time depends on the severity and position of the tear.
