Question

define renal transport maximum

define renal transport maximum

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Transport maximum refers to the plasma concentration at which carriers are fully saturated. It is used for Glucose. Beyond plasma concentration of 350mg/dL (Transport maximum for Glucose) the reabsorption rate does not increase ie becomes constant and is independent of Plasma glucose concentration. Therefore as the transport maximum is reached, urinary excretion rate increases linearly with increase in plasma glucose concentration.
