ANSWER: In normal physiological contions, if a person enters into a dim lighted room from a bright area there will be sudden sense of darkness by the person. It is due to bleaching of all rod pigment cells dur to bright light initially. As time passes by, rod cells gets activated and the person will be able to seen in dim light.
In pathological conditions like the rod cone dystrophy also called Retinitis pigmentosa, there is destruction of rods cell first which is located in the peripheral region of the retina. The rod cells that gets damaged will not be able to sense any form of light and hence even if dim light falls on the retina it is not able to detect that light.
