Membrane proteins are very essential for proper functioning of
the cells.
- Intrinsic proteins: are embedded in phospholipid bilayer.
- Transport proteins: are associated with transport of substances
across the membrane.
- Enzymes: perform several tasks due to their enzymatic
effect.
- Signal transduction proteins : They lie outside the cell
membrane. They are associated with metabotropic receptors
(G-protein coupled receptors). They perform various cellular
events.
- Recognition proteins :They act as identification tags.
