Starting with the hyoid bone, describe the bones and joints of the axial skeleton leading to the coccyx.
Axial skeletal has 6 parts and hyoid is third among them. Hyoid provides an anchor point for the laryngeal skeleton which is critical for regulation the rension of vocal folds and corresponding sounds. Axial skeleton also comprise sternum commonly called as chest bone and ribs which contains 24 bones and has numerous joints like xiphisternal joint, intervertebral joints, sternochondral joints, sternoclavicular joints and manubriosternal joints. AS continue to extend as vertebral column of 26 bones which are connected to the adjecent one by synovial joints called zygapophysial joints. It is also called as spine which run from the base of the skull to the pelvis and terminate as coccyx.
