The regions of brain responsible for processing of language
are:
- Broca's area
- Wernicke's area
- Primary motor cortex
- Posterior middle temporal gyrus and
- Middle and posterior superior temporal gyrus.
Frontal, temporal and parietal lobes acts as integration centre
for languages. Motor cortex is responsible for speech ability.
The three major types of aphasia are:
- Broca's aphasia - Also called as expressive
aphasia. Appeared with partial loss of the ability to
produce language. Usually exhibit effortful speech or nonfluent
speech.
- Wernicke's aphasia - Identified by deficits in the
comprehension of language. Characterized by poor auditory
processing, fluent speech, and poor repetition.
- Global aphasia- Disorder due to damage to the part of brain by
pathologies like stroke which enable only to produce and understand
a handful of words and also impair reasding and writing
skills.
