2. Predict what will happen if most of the ACh-esterase were removed from synaptic cleft:

a.More ACh will be available
b.Less ACh will be available
c.There will be more Na/K pump activity
d.There will be less Na/K pump activity

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1) TAC -CCT DNA sequence will be transcribed into mRNA with complementary sequence . It will become AUG-GGA. This mRNA will be translated into protein chain with amino acids. AUG codes for methionine GGA codes for glycine. The chain will have sequence of methionine-glycine/.

2) Acetylcholinesterase is the enzyme which digests the Acetylcholine. It is present inside the plasma. It digests Acetylcholine and decrease the concentration of Acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft. So as acetylcholinesterase is removed, acetylcholine will be less metabolized. Hence the levels of acetylcholine will increase in the synaptic cleft. Acetylcholine has no direct action on Na K pump. Therefore answer is Option a.
