why is the ventilatory response is less at the same absolute workload post-training compared to pre-training.

Answer #1

The ventilatory response is less at the same absolute workload post-training compared to pre-training because of increased VO2max in comparison to pre-training condition.

The reason for the higher VO2 cost for the same work rate may be that in the post-trained state, the adaptation to an exercise stimulus with endurance training is faster than for the pre-trained state. Another reason may be that at the same work rate, in the pre-trained state power is generated by using increased anaerobic input.
