composite restorative materials may present radiographically as both radiolucent or radiopaque depending on their chemical makeup. While decay present itself as a radiolucency, how can the dental radiographer determine which is decay and which is a restorative materials?
Radiographically both dental caries and composite filling are appeared as radiolucent. The filling and a cavity can be differentiated from the shape and outline of the radiolucent area. Before filling caries tooth with composite material all caries should be removed and a cavity should be prepared with a proper regular outline and margin. Radiographer can determine caries with irregular margin or improper shape of the radiolucent area and a filling by proper outline and margin in the radiolucent area.
