The basic or major component is the alveoli lined with milk secreting cuboidal cells .These are surrounded by myoepithelial cells. These alveoli joins to form lobule,where each lobule has a lactiferous duct that drains into nipple,the projected end.
Upon stimulation by oxytocin,milk gets drained into nipples from the lobules.Suspensory ligament originates from pubic or prepubic region.They holds the integrity of the gland together
