describe the structure of interneurons
Interneurons are central nodes of neuronal circuits that connect and enable communication between the sensory/motor and the central nervous system. They may also help connect the sensory with the motor neurons for reflex arcs, and aid in neurogenesis. Short relay interneurons are called local neurons, these are the types that connect the motor and the sensory neurons in reflex arcs. Another type of interneuron is the relay interneurons that connect neurons from one region of the brain to another.
Interneuronal cells are multipolar neurons with a cyton with dendrites and an axon terminal. Their lengths may vary from a few millimeters to a few meters.
