Name one of the cell types affected by postmenopausal osteoporosis?
Ans:- the cell which is most affected by postmenopausal osteoporosis is OSTEOBLAST.
ESTROGEN MAINLY AFFECT THE FUNCTION OF TWO CELLS IN BONE.
1) OSTEOBLAST
2) OSTEOCLAST
Estrogen increase proliferative of osteoblast and also inhibit apoptosis of osteoblast . In this way it increases bone formation .
Estrogen inhibits the production of RANK ligand which is necessary for stimulation of osteoclast cell hence decreases proliferation of osteoclast and estrogen also promotes apoptosis of osteoclast cells.
So when level of estrogen decreases in postmenopausal women's it lead to decrease bone formation and increase bone resorption.
Leading to osteoporosis.
