What tests (list) are used to evaluate the extrinsic and
intrinsic coagulation cascades?
Tests used to evaluate the extrinsic and intrinsic coagulation cascades are -
1.Prothrombin time test (PT)
2. Activated partial thromboplastin time test (PTT)
3.Thrombin time test (TT)
The cogulation cascade includes the extrinsic and intrinsic pathway of coagulation. They both leads to formation of prothrombin activator factor X .This causes the formation of thrombin from the prothrombin. Then, thrombin acts on fibrinogen to form the fibrin monomers. The fibrin stabilizing factors (XIII) acts on the fibrin monomers and establishes the covalent bonds and forms the fibrin mesh and attracts the platelets and phospholipid ,thus finally forms the blood clot.
