Answer #1

FSH and LH are the hormones that are produced by the anterior pituitary and they have actions on male and female gonads.

  1. FSH- follicle stimulating hormone
  • FSH stimulates the maturation of primordial germ cells in both sexes
  • In males, FSH promotes Sertoli cells to produce ABP (androgen binding proteins )and also helps to sustain spermatogenesis.
  • In females, FSH acts mainly on granulosa cells and promotes the maturation of follicles.

2. LH- luteinizing hormone

  • In males, LH acts on Leydig cells and promote the synthesis and release of testosterone.
  • In females, LH is needed for the follicular growth and LH surge helps in Ovulation.
