FSH and LH are the hormones that are produced by the anterior
pituitary and they have actions on male and female gonads.
- FSH- follicle stimulating hormone
- FSH stimulates the maturation of primordial germ cells in both
sexes
- In males, FSH promotes Sertoli cells to produce ABP (androgen
binding proteins )and also helps to sustain spermatogenesis.
- In females, FSH acts mainly on granulosa cells and promotes the
maturation of follicles.
2. LH- luteinizing hormone
- In males, LH acts on Leydig cells and promote the synthesis and
release of testosterone.
- In females, LH is needed for the follicular growth and LH surge
helps in Ovulation.
