Derivation of types of tissue from a fertilized
egg:
- When a fertilized egg divides, it becomes into a form called
'morula', which is like a solid ball of
cells.
- Next after five days of fertilization, it becomes into a
'blastocyst', which is like a hollow ball of cells
and the outer layer of this blastocyst contains cells, which forms
a part of placenta. Inside the blastocyst ball,
there is a small clump of cells called 'inner cell
mass'.
- From this inner cell mass,
tissues of the body are formed or derived.
Medical implications of embryonic stem
cells:
- Embryonic stem cells are associated with direct risks of
forming tumours.
- They can also cause some neurological complications in those
who undergo embryonic stem cell transplantation.
