Explain the effects of carbon dioxide on oxygen-carrying capacity of haemoglobin during strenuous exercise.
The oxygen carrying capacity of hemoglobin reduces during strenuous exercises.
During exercise the body tissues produce hydrogen ion and carbondioxide as waste products of cell activity. And it lead to decrease the affinity of hemoglobin to oxygen.
An increase in the hydrogen ion cause decrease the pH of blood and during exercises body temperature increases. This 2 factors shift the oxygen hemoglobin dissociation curve to right. Which means decrease in partial pressure of oxygen in blood.
And in case of carbondioxide high acidity hemoglobin has low tendency to combine with carbondioxide. So carbondioxide is displaced from blood.
