Swyer Syndrome :
1 a) Swyer syndrome is a condition with Genotype XY with defective SRY gene, normally the SRY region of the Y chromosome is responsible for formation of Testis detrmining region and hence conversion of indifferent gonads into the testis. But in swyer Syndrome due to defect in SRY gene the gonads of this child with XY Genotype continue to develop female gonads.
Embryo with XY Genotype ---->Urogenital ridge ---> Indifferent Gonads ( 7th week) ----> a absent SRY gene ----> Ovary continue grow ---> streak ovary formed
1 b) Individual with Swyer syndrome has female external genitalia
Due to lack of SRY gene -----> Absent testis determining factor ---> absent testis ---> absent mullerian inhibiting substance ----> Mullerian duct continue to grow ---> Female internal genitalia formed ----> normal uterus and fallopian tubes are formed.
