explain why, if someone shines a bright light in your eyes at night, it takes several minutes after the light goes away for you to regain your night visi
Rods are the cells that present on the retina which is responsible for dim light( night vision) vision. They are found at periphery.
Cones are the cells that present at centre (fovea) on the retina which is responsible for bright light (day vision) vision.
Rodapsin is the pigment used by the rods for night vision. Intense light causes these pigments to decompose reducing sensitivity to dim light. Darkness causes to regenerate the rodapsin in a process called " dark adaptation " in which theeye adjusts to see in the low lighting conditions.
This dark adaptation takes several minutes to regain night vision.
