Homework Answers

Answer #1

The respiratory tract has the function of gaseous exchange in living beings. The respiratory tract has been divided into two portions i,e conducting portion and respiratory portion. The conducting portion of the respiratory tract helps in the transfer of air. It does not take part in gaseous exchange. It involves nose, nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx trachea and terminal bronchioles. These organs help the air to move in and out of lungs.
The respiratory portion involves gaseous exchange. It includes respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts and alveoli. These organs help inhaled oxygen to diffuse into lung capillaries and carry carbon dioxide out.

Hence the option (2. Terminal bronchioles) is correct.

Which statement is NOT true regarding the respiratory membrane? Diffusion of O2 is dependent on the diffusion of CO2. The respiratory membrane consists of 5 layers including a surfactant layer produced by the Type II alveolar cells. Water in the lungs adversely affects the diffusion of both O2 and CO2. The formation of carbonic acid happens more rapidly in RBC due to the presence of CAH.
