Which one of the following statements about the cochlea would be the most correct?

a) Hair cells near the oval window depolarize in response to high sound frequencies

b) The perilymph contains high concentrations of K+ ions

c) Hair cells will excite the associated auditory nerve when they release K+ on to the nerve

Homework Answers

Answer #1

ANSWER :

The perilymph present in surrounding of hair cells have high concentration of Na+ concentration then K+. When a stimulus (sound wave) reach to the hair cells, located in the Organ of corti (or cochlea) depolarize when an influx of potassium ions (K+) via transduction channels in them and lead to initiate the release of neurotransmitter to synapse from base of cells to sensory neurons of auditory nerve, and transmit further information in them. Hence option (c) is the correct answer choice.

Which of the following statements about how light can interact with atoms is correct? (Check all that are correct) The photons most likely to ionize atoms have the longest wavelengths An atom can most easily absorb a photon with an energy that is equal to the difference in energy of two electron states. The frequencies of the spectral lines produced by an excited atom give the energies of individual electron states. The frequencies of bright lines produced by excited atoms...

Which of the following statements about the catalysis and regulation of Ribonucleotide Reductase (RNR) are Correct? I. After product release, NADPH binds to RNR and reduces the disulfide bond formed in the α-subunit catalytic site during catalysis. II. A free radical generated in the β-subunit is used to generate a free radical in the α-subunit active site nearly 35Å away. III. When dATP concentrations are high enough, dATP binds to the RNR activity site and turns off the activity of...
