Difference between diabetes insipidus and
diabetes mellitus
- Diabetus insipidus occurs due to lack of hormone secretion from
posterior pituitary gland. Diabetes mellitus
occurs due to lack of hormone secretion from
pancreas.
- Diabetus insipidus occurs due to lack of anti-diuretic
hormone. Diabetes mellitus occurs due to lack of hormone
insulin.
- In diabetes insipidus, there is no glucose
excreted in urine. In diabetes mellitus, excess
glucose from renal tubules gets excreted in urine
(glycosuria).
- In diabetes insipidus, diluted urine is
produced. In diabetes mellitus, the urine is
concentrated.
