Which of the following is NOT directly linked to catecholamines

a. Increased cardiac output

b. Hb-O2 binding affinity

c. Increased heart rate

d. Increased systemic vascular resistance

e. Increased MAP

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer

Option B) Hb-O2 binding affinity

  • Catacholamines such as epinephrine and norepinephrine are released from the adrenal medulla upon activation of sympathetic nervous system.
  • They are fight or flight hormones and cause increase in blood pressure, heart rate, cardiac output.
  • Hb-O2 affinity is not directly affected by catacholamines. The factors affecting affinity of hemoglobin for oxygen are : pH of blood, temperature, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide levels in blood.

Which of the following would happen to the O2 saturation curve of Hemoglobin in the presence of normal amounts of 2, 3 DPG if  a drug  were administered that prevents the binding of the 2,3 DPG to Hemoglobin: The curve would be shifted to the right from that of normal red cells. The concentration of O2 necessary to saturate Hb would be higher than the normally required O2 binding at high PO2 would be greatly decreased The amount of O2 delivered to...

Cardiovascular and respiratory functions are highly integrated. We have already spent some time discussing how cardiac pathologies can lead to pulmonary oedema. Now let’s take that to the next step in considering the following questions. Consider what effects pulmonary oedema will have on circulating blood gasses. How will this affect systemic arterioles, how will that impact TPR, and how the body will compensate for this change. (Select three answers). Group of answer choices Systemic arterioles will dilate Systemic arterioles will...
