what is the advantage of the equatorial system over the alt-azimuth system for tracking celestial objects

Answer #1

The main advantage of the equitorial system over the alt-aimuth system is that in the equitorial system, we can simply follow the celestial objects under observation as they move throu out the sky by just moving the telescope in only one of the direction we want to which is also termed as right ascension. But with alt-azimuth system , we are allowed to move the scope of the telescope in an east -west direction and up-down direction. This becomes quite difficult as the area that is located directly overhead is very hard to be observed. Hence, we need to deal with certain blind spots which are beyond the scope when we are using alt-azimuth system.

A system of two objects suspended over a pulley by a flexible cable is sometimes referred to as an Atwood’s machine. Here, let the mass of the counterweight be 1000 kg. Assume the mass of the empty elevator is 850 kg, and its mass when carrying four passengers is 1150 kg. For the latter case calculate (a) the acceleration of the elevator and (b) the tension in the cable. Is the tension different when you calculate the tension in the...

A system comprises two objects, a massless string, a frictionless (but not massless) pulley and the Earth. The objects, 1 and 2, have masses of 0.111 and 0.316 kg, respectively, and hang from opposite ends of the string, which is draped over the pulley. The pulley has a radius of 0.100 m.
