Exercise is know to insert more GLUT 4 transporters on the skeletal muscle cell surface . How is that going to affect glucose levels in blood plasma during exercise

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In glucose homeostasis GLUT 4 transporters are the major component. Insulin stimulates transport of glucose from blood to skeletal muscles via glucose transporter protein 4 ( GLUT 4). During exercise the metabolic demand of skeletal muscles increases due to which GLUT 4 increases the uptake of glucose from blood due to which there is reduced blood glucose concentration. Hence more insertion of GLUT 4 transporters on skeletal muscle surface during exercise will reduce the glucose levels in blood plasma.

1. Skeletal muscle cells produce glucose carriers (GLUT 4 transporters). Rather then having these transporters continually on their surface, they store them inside vesicles within the cell. During exercise (muscular contraction), these vesicles fuse with the plasma membrane of the cell, inserting the transporters into the membrane. This allows glucose to enter the cell by passive transport. Which of the factors that affect simple diffusion has been altered in this example?

Cholera and other diarrheal diseases cause nearly 2 billion cases of diarrhea annually. Cholera toxin and other bacterial toxins cause the intestine to secrete fluid into the lumen of the gut, depleting the extracellular fluid (ECF) volume. If fluid loss is not matched with fluid intake (law of mass balance), the result is severe dehydration, circulatory collapse, and even death. Drinking a rehydration solution is the most rapid and effective way to replace the large volumes of water lost by...
