Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) is the example of systemic autoimmune or collagen disease.

  • The autoantibodies against nuclear and cytoplasmic components of the cell are demonstrable in plasma by immunoflorescence test in almost all cases of SLE.
  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus like most other autoimmune disease,is more common in women in their 2nd and 3rd decades of life.
  • SLE is a multisystem disease and thus a wide variety of clinical feautures may be present.The severity of diesease varies from mild to intermittent to svere and fulminant.
  • Mostly targeted organs are mucoskeletal system,skin,kidneys,nervous system,lungs,heart and blood vessels,GI system and haematopoietic system.
  • Fatige and myalgia are present in most of the cases throughout the course of disease.Severe form of illness occurs with fever,Weightloss,anaemia and organ related manifestations
