Why is electro-negativity of elements (compounds) important in physiology?
The most important place where electronegativity is important in human body is in nerves.
Nerves are important for transmitting signal and action potential to each and every part of body. All body cells, tissues, organ and organ system works only when these receive impulses from nervous system via nerves.
For working of nerves, there is requirement of difference in the charge across the neurons which we call electronegativity difference. When neuron is not conducting, the inside of the neuron is more negative than the outside. It means electronegativity is more inside.
When neuron has to conduct and transmit the action potential, then this electronegativity has to be reversed. This happens by movement of positive sodium ions into the neuron .
Thus electronegativity difference and it's reversal is most important step in generation of action potential.
