Which condition results in metabolic acidosis with severe hypokalemia and chronic alkaline urine?
Renal tubular acidosis-
Phenformin-induced acidosis
Acidosis caused by starvation
Diabetic ketoacidosis
The condition is RTA - Renal tubular acidosis.
Renal tubular acidosis is a condition results in metabolic acidosis with severe severe hypokalemia and chronic alkaline urine.
There are four types of RTA ( Renal tubular acidosis) - 1. Distal RTA.
2. Proximal RTA.
3. Mixed RTA.
4. Hyporenemic hypoaldosteronism RTA.
It is mainly due to the failure of secretion of H+ ions and unable to acidify the urine. There also loss of bicarbonate ions HCO3- resulting in metabolic acidosis, hypolalemia and chronic alkaline urine.
This alkaline urine may leads to formation of stones in urinary tract.
