Draw structure of nephron and explain the process of tubular reabsorption and secretion in that diagram. Specify what gets rebsorbed/secreted in each part of nephron. Also specify the method used to transport.
Tubular reabsorption-
it is the process by which water and other substances are transported from renal tubules back to blood (peritubular capillaries). Large quantity of water (99%) , electrolytes and other substances are reabsorbed by tubular epithelial cells.
About 80% reabsorption occur in PCT. Glucose, amino acids, sodium, potassium, urea, water etc are reabsorbed here.
Sodium and chloride are reabsorbed in loop of Henle.
Sodium , calcium , bicarbonate and water are reabsorbed in DCT.
TUBULAR SECRETION-
it is the process by which the substances are transported form blood to renal tubules.
Potassium is secreted in PCT and DCT.
Ammonia is secreted in PCT.
Hydrogen ions are secreted in PCT and DCT.
Urea is secreted in Loop of Henle.
