There are 3 phases for a movement
1. Concentric phase
In this phase, muscles are contracting and muscle fibres are shortening while we do the movement. In biceps curl, concentric phase is when we bring the hand up. At that time biceps contracts .
2. Isometric contraction
In this phase, muscle contracts but muscle fibres do not get shortened. In biceps curl, when we stop at any point and hold it in that position, it is an isometric contraction.
Iso=Same
Metric=length
Isometric=muscle fibre remains same length
3. Eccentric contraction
In this phase, muscles are contracting an dmuscle fibres are lengthening. In biceps curl, this is the lowering phase.of movement. When we are lowering the the dumbbbell back to starting position, it is the eccentric phase.
