Question

Staphylococcus epidermidis cause biofilm

Staphylococcus epidermidis cause biofilm

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Staphylococcus epidermis is a bacterium that grows in the skin of humans. This bacteria has the ability to cause biofilm formation. The biofilm is caused by the thick covering made by the communities of microbial cell where the reproduce. And these bacteria surround themselves with some secreted polymers. The biofilm by staphylococcus epidermis is a primary virulence factor. The biofilm formation affect the host innate immune action and affect the application of Antibiotics. As this covers like a film topical agents are difficult to act. These films covering the mucous membrane of the skin affects the immune responses like production of sebum and other materials. The only advantage of this biofilm formation by epidermis is to prevent further infection from bacterias like S.aureus.

1.A biofilm of Staphylococcus aureus is growing on the inside of an intravascular catheter inserted into a patient's arm. The doctor recommends removing it and replacing it with a new one. Why? Group of answer choices The microbes in the biofilm are antibiotic resistant and would be tough to eliminate The bacteria are producing toxins that degrade the catheter The bacteria can be transferred to a new patient when the catheter is removed The catheter forms a parasitic relationship with...
