Osmosis is the process of passive movement of water from it's high concentration to it's low concentration through a semi-permeable membrane. In humans, blood contains about 60% of albumin as plasma proteins. This content of albumin maintains a concentration gradient of water between blood and the fluid present in interstitial tissue spaces. Thus, albumin in the blood exerts a osmotic pressure of about 25-30mm Hg and is responsible for osmotic movement of water through the blood vessels into the tissue spaces or vice-versa.
