Discuss uterine distention solutions used for high-frequency bipolar surgery and monopolar surgery. What is the rationale for using nonelectrolytic versus electrolytic solutions in each case?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

uterine distension solution used for high frequency bipolar surgery are saline solutions while uterine distension solution ised in monopolar surgery is glycine 1.5% sorbitol - mannitol (non electrolytic irrigation fluid)

monopolar surgery uses hypotonic solution and they will cause excessive absorption of fluid leading to hyponatremia, hypoosmolality but isotonic electrolyte-containing solutions cannot be used because this leads to activation of ions that disperse the electric current and reduce the power density. Hence the heat generated in tissues is insufficient to destroy or have a tissue effect

bipolar surgery uses electrolyte solutions like normal saline reduces the risk oh hyponatremia.here saline solution can be used as distension media because it has no risk of current dispersion.

High frequency whistles are often used for training dogs and have a frequency of 21 kHz. Stanley’s dog is not responding to the whistle he bought and suspects the whistle may not be working. However, it is difficult for Stan to tell if the whistle is working because humans cannot hear sounds above 20 kHz. In order to test the whistle, he asks a friend to blow the whistle and hop on his four-wheeler. In which direction should his friend...

Discuss one (1) project where you used a problem-solving approach to address what turned out to be common-cause variation, or where you used a process improvement approach to deal with a special cause. If you do not have a personal experience that echoes either of these situations, you may use Internet to search for a case that reflects either of these situations. Examples: one’s personal investment strategy since 2008 reducing waiting times at the local hospital or emergency room reducing...

Consider the situation in which Coca-Cola finds itself in India--complaints about their high water usage, tainted products, and related issues. Let's use the values of aloha, pono, and kuleana, instead of the performance expectations gap and the radar screens, to analyze the case and develop solutions. Using our Hawaiian values, what are the problems facing Coke and the Indian community, and how might the values be used to resolve those problems?

You have exposed some algae to a high-salinity environment and used high-throughput sequencing to measure gene expression levels. You have a list of 50 genes that are known to be involved in helping cells respond to high salinity and want to know whether more of those genes show a change in their expression (i.e., are either up-regulated or down-regulated). To do so, you can compare the observed number of up-regulated genes from that list to the number that might be...
