Name the male and female gonads. Describe one anatomical/structural similarity and one functional simarity between the male and female gonads. Comment on the reason these organs are similar.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Gonads are the glands tasked with production of gametes. Male gonad is called testis and female gonad is called the ovary. The functional similarity is that both gonads produce gametes, which are haploid cells. The anatomical similarity between the gonads is the duct system and the external genitalia, before complete gonad differentiation occurs in the embryo. These organs are similar because they develop from a common structure as gonadal ridges. Only later they differentiatie as per sex of the foetus.
