Describe the roles of the thin and thick segments of nephron loops in water reabsorption:

Answer #1

ANSWER :

The loop of Henle is an essential part of the kidney nephron present between the proximal convulated tubule (PCT) and distal convulated tubule (DCT). In renal physiology, it required to create concentration gradient in the medullary region of kidney. The thin segment of ascending limb is impermeable but in the descending limb, highly permeable to the water (H2O), and readily reabsorbed into the pertubular capillaries via osmosis. However, the thick segments of both ascending and descending limbs in loop of Henle are impermeable to the water.

We know a lot about the nephron from the study of isolated segments and by analyzing fluid that enters the segment and how it is altered as it progresses through. Researchers collected samples of fluid entering and leaving a particular nephron segment that was immersed in a bath solution and then compared the volume and chemical composition of the two fluids to determine if any reabsorption or secretion had occurred.   The fluid volume entering the segment was 1.0 ml and...
