They have many functions. Some of them are :

1)Defence against infectious organisms like bacteria, virus.

2)Protection of body from dehydration and harmful radiations like ultraviolet radiation.

3)Sensory function

4)Excretion of waste in small quantities through sweating and perspiration.

5)Regulation of body temperature by dilatation and constriction of dermal blood vessels based on surrounding temperature.
