Answer. Basing upon function neurons can be of three types:
- Sensory or afferent neurons: these
are made up of afferent nerve fibers and carry information from the
receptors to the central nervous system(brain or spinal cord).
- Interneurons: they help in
processing the information received from sensory neurons and helps
in passing the processed information to the motor neurons. Means
they act as mediator between sensory and motor neurons.
- Motor or efferent neurons: these
are made up of efferent nerve fibers and carry the processed
information from the central nervous system to the effectors that
could be a gland or a muscle.
