What mechanisms are responsible for controlling the amount of a neurotransmitter available in the synapse?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The mechanisms responsible for controlling of release of the neurotransmitter are

i) Neurotransmitter is synthesized inside the neuron but raw materials for their preparation are from outside . So we have to inhibit the uptake of raw materials

Example: for synthesis of acetylcholine , the raw material required is choline . so we inhibit uptake of choline

ii) Inhibit the entry of neurotransmitter into the vesicles

Example : Inhibits entry of acetylcholine into the vesicle

iii) Inhibit the entry of neurotransmitter into the synapse

Example: botulinum toxin inhibits the entry of acetyl choline into the synapse
