COMPOSITION OF BLOOD PLASMA

Blood plasma is water with dissolved solutes.46-63 % of blood volume is blood plasma. It consists of:

• 92% Water

• 7% Dissolved proteins

• Albumin: for maintaining osmotic pressure, transport function
• Globulin: immune function, transport function
• Fibrinogen: responsible for clotting
• Regulatory proteins/hormones

• 1% Other solutes

• Salts/Electrolytes: sodium, potassium, calcium
• Orgnaic nutrients: aminoacids, sugars, lipids
• Organic waste (from cellular respiration and cell breakdown)
