Please give a detailed explanation, thank you!
An antibody to a peptide combines with the peptide and renders it non-functional. If an animal were given an antibody to somatostatin, the secretion of which anterior pituitary hormone(s) would change and in what direction?
Stomatostatin/Growth hormone inhibitory hormone is a peptide hormone that performs a wide variety of functions in the body including regulation of endocrine system, has its effects on neurotransmission and cell growth and also inhibits many hormones. The hormone is mainly produced from the digestive system and also the neuroendocrine neurons of the ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus. It is a key inhibitor for the groeth hormone secretion from anterior pitutary. If the antibody to stomatostatin is given, the secretion of GH increases. This is due to the impaired inhibition of GH secretion by the inactivated somatostatin.
