Nephron is structural and functional unit of the kidney that functions to regulate water and soluble substances by filtering the blood and reabsorbing the essential substances and excreting the rest by forming urine.

It is composed of vascular and tubular components. The vascular component has glomerulus, afferent and efferent arteriole,Peritubular capillaries (PCT) and vasa recta (VR). The tubular component has bowman's capsule ,Proximal convoluted tubule (PCT), Loop of Henle,Ascending and Descending limb,Distal convoluted tubule (DCT) and collecting ducts.
