Hypothesis- Change in ER nurse to patient ratio working in high acuity patients with low staffing leads to higher incidence of nurse burnout

• Design - case control study. Controls will be those nurses working with high staffing places and cases will be those working in low staffing place. Sample size would be 30 each in cases and controls.
• The two groups will be compared over a period of time for the incidence of nurse burnout
• The outcome variable (burnout) can be determined from nurses falling ill with depressed mood
• the statistical analysis having a p value of less than 0.05
• The study highlights the higher incidence of nurse breakdown in those working in low staffing area. Various measures like decreasing the working time of nurses and increasing the nursing staff may solve the problem to some extent
