Vocal cords are the two fibrous connective tissue bands attached to the larynx by means of arytenoid cartilage. They are made of vocalic muscle, and vocal ligaments. When the vocal cords are pulled together by the contraction of muscles, the air moving in between them causes the vibration of vocal cords and thus sound is produced.
The true vocal folds are located deep inferior, where the actual sound is produced. The gap between two vocal cords is called as “rima glottides.”
The location of false vocal folds (vestibular folds) is just above the true vocal folds, i.e. at the inferior edge of the vestibule. “Ventricle” is the space between the true and false vocal folds
