what is ETS or oxidative phosphorylation and how does it allow for the production of ATP?

what is ETS or oxidative phosphorylation and how does it allow for the production of ATP?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

ANSWER: Oxidative phosphorylation is a process in which ATP is produced as a result of electron transfer from NADH and FADH2 to O2 by a series of electron carriers. This process takes place in mitochondria and is the major source of ATP in aerobic exercise. Oxidative phosphorylation is well defined as the synthesis of ATP by phosphorylation of ADP for which energy is obtained from the electron transport chain and takes place in mitochondris in aerobic conditions.

Mitochondria produce most of the cell's ATP by oxidative phosphorylation. Electrons from NADH and FADH2 formed in the TCA cycle are transported through the electron transport chain (ETC) which consists of four complexes (I, II, III and IV). Hereby, a proton gradient is formed across the inner membrane of the mitochondria which is used by the ATP synthase to form ATP. In isolated mitochondria, oxygen consumption rate (OCR) and rate of ATP synthesis can be determined, respectively. Seahorse and NOVOstar...
