When using an air entrainment mask, how is the FiO2 delivered to the patient affected in the following situations? Why? (3 pts)
Increase the flow 2 liters per minute above the recommended liter flow for that FiO2.
Decrease the flow 2 liters per minute below the recommended liter flow for that FiO2.
If the entrainment port is covered or obstructed.

Answer #1

An oximeter is used to titrate oxygen while exercising and at rest. It measures the level of oxygen present in the blood at anytime and can be used to determine the level of assistance needed. It measures the level of oxygen present in blood by sending small beams of lights through the skin and by observing the changes in the absorption of light.

3.

  • Read the label on the flowmeter
  • If the flowmeter is compensated, the float will jump when the cylinder is turned on first
  • The flow will read 0, if the flowmeter is compensated when outflow of the gas is completely obstructed and the flow is turned to 8-10 lpm.

4. It is important to crack a cylinder before attaching it to the regulator so that any dirt or debris present is removed. This is done to prevent the dirt entering the regulator and causing an obstruction and to prevent fire due to an adiabatic process.
