Peristalsis is a radially symmetrical contraction or we can say it is  a series of wave-like muscle contractions which helps in pushinv ingested food through the digestive tract.Peristalis involves longitudinal smooth muscle tissue are involved in peristalsis. Esophagus, stomach, and intestines are the structures that use peristalsis.

Segmentation involves contractions of the circular muscles in the digestive tract.Segmentation helps to digest the chyme when it enters small intestines from stomach. Segmentation occurs in both the large and small intestine, but mostly in the small intestine.
