The two types of supporting  connective tissue are cartilage and bone. Bone tissue is also called supportive tissue. In all types of cartilage the cells are called chondrocytes are housed in spaces called lacunae within the matrix. Hyaline cartilage and elastic cartilage can be differentiated from fibrous cartilage because they are surrounded by dense connective tissue border called perichondrium which is not present in fibrous cartilage. This layer is important for nutrition because cartilage is avascular and therefore lacks blood vessels of it’s own.
